Tough matches for Big Ten women

February 22, 2010
There were some struggles and some triumphs for the Big Ten women this past weekend.

The Hoosier women are hot and don't seem to be cooling off.  After they took out Kentucky 5-2 for their eighth win of the season, they pulled a major upset a few days later.  It was No. 37 Indiana over No. 10 Tennessee, 6-1.  Though the scores were close and the Volunteers were down a player, the Hoosiers still dominated the day.  The Buckeye women were still on a roll, improving to 9-1 after defeating LSU, 5-2, before they went down to Tennessee (5-2) on Saturday.

The Illini women's team dropped a tough 5-2 decision at No. 17 Notre Dame. There were some close matches, four of which were three-setters. The next day the Fighting Irish completed an even bigger win when the took out Northwestern just days after their second straight ITA Indoors title.  It was Notre Dame's first-ever win over the nation's top ranked team and it came at 5-2.
In her second year, Coach Laura Glitz has the Purdue women off to a great start.  There latest accomplishment was a 5-2 win over Western Michigan.

The Lady Gophers fell to Washington with only one match won (by Alexa Palen).  They did even the weekend record by squeezing by Oregon on Sunday, 4-3.

The Penn State women were defeated 5-2 by Boise State on their home court.
