Three schools split Big Ten Player of the Week Awards

February 18, 2010
Ohio State and Michigan shared this week's Big Ten Men's Player of the Week Award, while Northwestern's Lauren Lui earned the women's.

Lui was instrumental in the Wildcat's second straight ITA Women's Team Indoor Championships as she was 4-0 in singles play during the weekend at No. 4. The senior and partner Elena Chernyakova also upset the North Carolina doubles team of Sanaz Marand & Sophie Grabinski, ranked No. 6 in the country, during the finals of that tournament. This is Lauren Lui's fourth honor as Big Ten Player of the Week.

There were two men sharing this week's Big Ten award.  Chris Madden, a junior from Michigan, clinched Michigan's 4-3 win over Notre Dame with an upset over Blas Moros, (6-3,3-6,6-2).  This is Madden's first recognition by the Big Ten.   The co-Player of the Week is Buckeye Dino Marcan.  Freshman Marcan defeated two ranked opponents (Jarmere Jenkins of Virginia and Andrew Carter of Louisville) to imporve to 10-1 for the season. The Croatian also received this mention last month.
