Few weekend matches for Big Ten men's tennis

As many of the Big Ten women's teams spent their weekend playing each other, there were some surprising results.


Illinois vs. Indiana-The No. 44 Fighting Illini defeated the No. 28 Hoosiers, 6-1, on Friday.  It was a third straight loss for Indiana, who started the season on a roll.  For Illinois, is was a great win where they took the doubles point and pulled off singles in straight sets. The final match, though, ended in a retirement for Leslie Hureau, giving Megan Fudge 6-3,2-3 win.

Michigan State
-
The Spartans lost a non-conference match to Santa Clara on Thursday (6-1) before taking off for spring break.

Minnesota
-
The Gophers are out in California, where they fell in a close one to Loyola Marymount on Sunday, 4-3.

Northwestern
vs. Wisconsin-
The Wildcats, currently ranked No. 1 in the country, dominated the Badgers
to a 7-0 shutout without gving up a set.

Ohio State
vs. Purdue-
It was a close match,  but the No. 57 Boilmakers pulled the upset over the No. 30 Buckeyes.  The doubles point went to Purdue, ias did the first two singles matches for a 3-0 lead, but Ohio State came back for the next three matches.  It all came down to court 2, where Jennifer Rabot defeated Paloma Escobedo 1-6,7-5,6-4, for the win.

Penn State
-
The Nittany Lions fell to SMU 7-0 in a non-conference match.

The Iowa and Michigan women were off this weekend.
