It was some weekend for Big Ten women's tennis, from Illinois' wild win over Ohio State to the Wisconsin-Minnesota battle.
Wisconsin 4, No. 60 Minnesota 3-It's been a tough season for the Badgers, but they picked up their second conference win in dramatic fashion as it came down to No. 6 and Kathleen Saltarelli defeated Gopher Magdalena Wiecha, 2-6,7-6 (4),7-6(4) to squeeze it out.
No. 38 Indiana 6, Penn State 1-The Hoosiers dominated this one, with only Denisa Zobeideh picking up a win for the Nittany Lions.
No. 26 Illinois 7, Penn State 0-Sunday wasn't any better than Saturday for the Nittany Lions as the Illini shut them out.
No. 33 Ohio State 4, No. 38 Indiana 3-Kirsten Flower was certainly a busy one this weekend and she deserves to sleep in. After a marathon match with Megan Fudge on Saturday, it was Flower who again was in the spotlight on Sunday. This time, however, she picked up the win for the Buckeyes as she eliminated Hoosier Leslie Hureau, 0-6,6-4,7-5.
No. 48 Purdue 7, Michigan State 0-This one wasn't quite as one-sided as the score might show. The Spartans had problems closing anything out, but they did push the Boilmakers to two tiebreakers in doubles and walk away from the match with three sets.
No. 20 Iowa 5, Wisconsin 2-It wasn't all bad news for all the Badgers. Katya Mirnova, the lone senior, picked up wins in singles and doubles over the Hawkeyes during her final home college tennis match.
No. 9 Northwestern 6, No. 60 Minnesota 1-The Wildcats have had some tough times this season, but they proved they still deserve to be in the top ten with as they quickly won the doubles and three straight singles as Lauren Lui clinched it over the Gophers.
