The countdown to the outright title has begun and it looks to be quite a battle as a number of teams at the top are close as can be.
On the men's side, Illinois and Ohio State are both 6-0 in the conference, but that has to change this weekend as the two teams face each other in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (E.S.T.) Before that happens, the Illini need to get past a Friday night match with Penn State, who came a point away from beating the Big Ten's No. 3 team -- Michigan, who has had only one loss. Before the Buckeyes welcome Illinois it will be a match up with Indiana, while Michigan will play Purdue.
Things are also looking very interesting for the Big Ten women. It's been a clear Northwestern in the No. 1 position the last few years, but that has changed dramatically this season. It is the Michigan women who are at the top and undefeated and they look to stay that way after a Saturday trip to No. 5 Purdue. The real contest in the conference will be for second place. Northwestern and Illinois are currently tied at that position, each with a 5-1 record. This weekend Northwestern will meet No. 4 Iowa on Saturday and No. 8 Minnesota on Sunday. The Fighting Illini women will have a homecourt advantage over No. 6 Ohio State Saturday and No. 11 Penn State Sunday.
We'll see who survives the weekend and makes the top of the order.
