Big Ten players take home trophies from ITA/USTA National Summer Champs

There were a number of trophies at the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships, hosted by the University of Indiana, that stayed in Big Ten country thanks to a few Hoosiers and an Illini  team.

Former Indiana player Thomas Richter was the men’s singles champion after he defeated Georgia Tech’s Elliot Potvin in the finals, 6-3,6-1. In the women’s singles final there was no Big Ten representation as Duke’s Mary Clayton was the winner over Alabama’s Alex Clay, but Hoosier  Kayla Fujimoto did go home with the consolation trophy in that event.

In doubles, Clay and teammate Taylor Lindsey won the final match over Illini Chelcie Abajian and Breanne Smutko in a tight 9-8(6) finish. The men’s doubles stayed home at Indiana, with Santiago Gruter and Jeremy Langer beating fellow Hoosiers Richter and Isade Juneau for the championship.

Winners of the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships receive wildcards into the D’Novo Men’s and the Rivera Women’s All-American Championships to be held in October.
