More of this week's Big Ten Tennis

April 6, 2010
While I was at the University of Illinois matches, there were lots of other ones taking place across the Big Ten.

Men-
Ohio State is continuing their domination.  They brought their win streak to 12 (the last match they lost was at the ITA Indoors) with a 7-0 win over Minnesota.

It was a battle won by the underdog as the No. 73 Hawkeyes squeezed by  No. 58 Penn State, 4-3.   It was clinched at the very top of the lineup, as Marc Bruche defeated Eddie Bourchier 7-5,4-6,6-3.

Women-
The Nittany Lions continue to struggle.  This weekend it was Minnesota who took out Penn State in a 7-0 shutout. They are hoping to have better luck in Michigan, as their next matches are with the Wolverines and the Spartans.

Though both teams were close in the rankings, the edge went to Iowa as the No. 26 Hawkeyes defeated No. 25 Ohio State.   The final score was 6-1, but that doesn't tell the whole story.  The Lady Buckeyes took the doubles point.  There was then two quick wins by Iowa, followed by three three-set matches.
And, for anyone who missed it, Friday night was one to remember for two Big Ten teams.  The Michigan women defeated Northwestern (4-3) for the first time since 1997.  It was also the Wildcats first home loss since April of 2004.  The Wolverines are hot right now, with an eight game winning streak.
