The Big Ten has chosen Illinois' Marek Czerwinski and Michigan's Whitney Taney as their Players of the Week.
Illini senior Marek Czerwinski won his second Big Ten Player of the Week honor of his career. The Michigan native had his team's only point during their dual match with Florida, a 6-3,7-5 win over previously undefeated Antoine Benneteau. Czerwinski also teamed with Stephen Hoh for an upset victory over Benneteau and Alexandre Lacroix in doubles.
It was also a second award for Michigan's Whitney Taney. The junior from Minnesota was instrumental in helping the Wolverines overcome two ranked teams this past weekend, No. 5 Baylor and No. 32 TCU. In the first win, Taney clinched the match after beating Taylor Ormand (4-6,7-6,6-4) at No. 5 singles. She was a singles and doubles (with partner Rika Tatsuno) winner during the TCU match.
